Welcome!

Welcome to the Mukerji Lab!  Our research centers on using spectroscopic methods to elucidate the mechanisms of recognition and binding in protein-DNA interactions. Using a combination of fluorescence and Raman spectroscopic tools, we  focus our studies on those proteins that play an important role in controlling gene expression and packaging DNA.

We also have a research program to study the process of plaque and fiber formation in protein systems. We have developed new methodologies to study fiber formation in real time using Raman spectroscopy, which were successfully applied to the problem of sickle cell fiber formation. Currently, our lab is employing these methods to study the processes of fibril and plaque formation in Alzheimer’s disease and cataract formation.
